Mantra Mania What Good are
Doctrines? Devices such as utilizing a repetitive
mantra are the means to that meditative end. The mantra allows the worshipper to take his
mind out of the affairs of the world so that he can transcend into the desired elevated
state. Eastern meditation, wrote Ron Rhodes in The Culting of America,
typically employs techniques such as concentrating on objects, exercising
controlled breathing, and uttering mantras (holy words) with a view of
emptying the mind of all distractions. This supposedly enables a person to reach an
altered state of consciousness a state of supreme harmony with himself and the
universe. This form of worship is completely false
and was rebuked by Jesus when He declared, And when you pray, do not keep on
babbling like the pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many
words. (Matt 5:7 NIV) The word babble here is translated as vain
repetition in the King James. In order to enter into the divine
"mysteries", the Babylonian priests utilized drugs, "sacred sex", and
meditation which included incantations (or mantras) which repeatedly called out the name
of some God. Thus, through these means they would be transported into the spirit world. (While meditating), the The
Tibetan Book of Living and Dying states, I sit quietly and rest in the nature of
mind; I don't question or doubt whether I am in the correct state or not.
There is no effort, only rich understanding, wakefulness, and unshakable certainty. When I
am in the nature of mind, the ordinary mind is no longer there. There is no need to
sustain or confirm a sense of being: I simply am. So the whole point of worship to the
followers of Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and
a light unto my path. (Ps 119:105 KJV) In spite of Hagans representation,
communication with God involves mental activity. Therefore, it is primarily in the Bible
that Christians find their revelation of God. In the words of Scripture can be found
solace, guidance along with direction concerning the nature of God. These are the
doctrines of the faith and the manner in which God has chosen to communicate with His
people. In contrast, pagans seek after revelation
through mystical experiences. Bodhidharma, who originally brought Zen Buddhism to In another instance this same Buddhist
mystic declared, "The ultimate Truth is beyond words. Doctrines are words. They're
not the Way. The Way is wordless. Words are illusions. . . Don't cling to appearances, and
you'll break through all barriers. . . " Again
he stated, "Erudition and knowledge are not only useless but also cloud your
awareness. Doctrines are only for pointing to the mind. Once you see your mind, why pay
attention to doctrines?" So, to the pagan worshipper, doctrine gets in the way of
communing with God. And today we are witnessing this same
aversion to doctrine in the ecumenical Christian fold. Ecumenicalism is a worldwide effort
to bring all religions together under one umbrella with no consideration of doctrinal
differences. It is an attempt to instigate unity by bringing diverse faiths together on
common ground. In the case of Charismatics this common ecumenical ground is the belief in
the baptism of the Holy Spirit. From that point onward the entire group represents a hodge
podge of beliefs that differ even on the nature of salvation. These Ecumenical Charismatics have formed
organizations such as the Network of Christian Ministry that demand that its members
abstain from public criticisms of each others doctrines. The whole idea is, in the
name of unity, to suppress public debate about doctrinal differences. Yet the anti
doctrinal stance adhered to by these modern charismatic ecumenicals merely echo the
teachings of the ancient Buddhist Bodhidharma who likewise failed to realize the value of
objective truth. What good are doctrines? the
mystic continues to ask. With this in mind, it is no wonder that so much of the music that
emanates out of the Charismatic Movement is vague in its theology while so repetitively
directed in God-consciousness. Doctrine has not been an important item on the list of
those particular Charismatics who tend to emphasize experience over biblical truth. According to the mystic, the knowledge of
God is attained through non-thought, because thoughts get in the way of seeing God. As the
Buddhist text clearly states, this non-thought is the open door to relativism: "More
and more, I have come to realize how thoughts and concepts are all that block us from
always being. . . in the absolute. . . When the view is there, thoughts are seen for what
they truly are: fleeting and transparent, and only relative." Therefore Babylonian worship has nothing
to do with absolute truth. It shuns doctrine. It cares nothing for Gods attributes
and nature because their god is a spirit only and does not have any particular
characteristics. So the way to commune with the supernatural world is through getting the
mind out of the way with the use of the repetitive mantra. With this in mind the Roman Catholic Hindu
mystic Philip St. Romain wrote: I began to find mental prayer (discursive
meditation) completely unproductive, and so. . . I stopped reflecting on the Scriptures
during prayer. . . (which was) an immense obstacle to experiencing God. . . Only total
passivity to the kundalini experience brings serenity. Only then, too, is there a sense of
Gods presence. Stay Tuned for More!!!! If you liked this CLICK HERE or call Author House @ 888.280.7715 to purchase a soft or hard cover copy of Don Wigton's book "Holy Wars" upon which this blog is based.Click Here to purchase the E-book edition for only 99 cents!
