behavior that uses worship as a form of escapism to travel into another world would stand
out as very foreign to the dear saints who through their lifetimes have understood worship
from a whole different standpoint. It would not make sense to those who have traditionally
understood that God is omnipresent and that there is no need to enter into some spiritual
exercise to see Him revealed. While realizing that the Bible teaches that God lives within
every believer, they would be confused by the New Worship theology that declares you have
to transcend into the supernatural world to find God. They would not comprehend why the
rituals proposed by New Worshippers are necessary. They would wonder why a considerable
amount of our New Worship music today contains few words with little doctrine, but rather
is limited to sentimental statements of love and affection. Then, after they have heard
the repetitive mantra of this new form of worship designed to conjure up God, they would
consider it equal to meditation. In the mean time, contemporary worshippers
who define worship as entering in would find themselves feeling superior to
those old folks who just dont know what it is like to be one with God as they are.
For being one with God to these people many times is all about these weekly worship
experiences rather than a daily walk with Him. And it is because they know how to behold
this secret of God that they believe they are more spiritual than the rest. They have
found a place where hidden mysteries of God can be found. It is because of this that in
their minds their music is the only music that can be used for
worship. The old hymns are just too wordy and complex to allow the singer to escape and
gain that state of mind that allows him to really worship. There was a praise team member who was
pretty adamant in this position. He disliked the hymns so much that even while on stage he
refused to sing them when they were played on the organ. Yet whenever the emotions would
rise, as the congregation would sing contemporary praise songs, he would say things like,
That is what worship is all about! On the other side of the coin I led the
praise team in a church that ministered to the old and youth alike. One very powerful
woman in the church hated contemporary music and anyone who had anything to do with it.
One Sunday morning as we played it appeared that she was raising her hands to God. On
closer inspection I noticed that she had her hands over her ears. It is no wonder, therefore, why churches
are divided in half over this. But there is no reason why pastors should remain ignorant
of the source of the problem. Stay Tuned for More!!!! If you liked this CLICK HERE or call Author House @ 888.280.7715 to purchase a soft or hard cover copy of Don Wigton's book "Holy Wars" upon which this blog is based.Click Here to purchase the E-book edition for only 99 cents!
